Homecare Bartlett TN – Preparing Your Aging Parent’s Home for Live-In Homecare

Live-in homecare can be a great choice for an aging adult who would benefit from having someone in the home with them at all times, but does not need awake and alert care during the night. With this type of care, a homecare provider is with your senior for 24-hour shifts, but with the expectation of a full night of sleep as well as personal time in the evening and morning each day.

They receive this care three to four days out of the week from their primary provider, and then a secondary provider for the remaining days. This allows for all providers to have time off in their own home. In order to get maximum benefit from this type of arrangement, it is important that your senior’s home is properly prepared for the start of care. This provides for a comfortable environment conducive to care and quality of life.

Use these tips to prepare your aging parent’s home for live-in homecare:

* Establish a separate sleep space for the care provider. This must be separate and private, in an area not used for other purposes. They should be able to shut the door and have complete privacy, and the room should not be accessed or used by anyone else.

* Have at least two new sets of bedding available so the care provider can change and wash their linens.

* If the care provider will not have access to a private bathroom for only their use, make sure there is room in the bathroom for their personal toiletries. They will need to be permitted time and privacy to bathe, and the use of their own products. Establish a shelf in the linen closet where they can keep their belongings.

* Make sure the kitchen has everything the care provider might need to prepare their own meals and snacks, as well as a shelf or area for them to keep their personal food items.

Making a decision about elderly homecare can feel overwhelming. As a family caregiver and an adult child, you want what’s best for your parent, and to help them live their highest quality of life throughout their later years. Fortunately, the services of an elderly homecare services provider are completely personalizable. You and your aging parent decide when the elderly homecare services provider will be in the home with them and what types of services they will provide.

This helps your parent stay safe, healthy, comfortable, and happy, while promoting more independence. As their caregiver, you can feel confident knowing you and your parent can work together to customize this care and adapt it to meet their needs now and as they change over the years.
