Vitamins are essential to our lives. They help us resist infections, keep our nerves healthy, get energy from food, and aid with normal cell function, growth, and development.

The human body needs 13 essential vitamins, and they have different jobs to help keep it working properly. And some of these vitamins include:

  • Vitamin B-Complex
This group of vitamins helps keep the nerve and blood cells healthy. It promotes energy and metabolism and fights against stress and anemia. They can be found in whole grains, meat, and fruits.
  • Vitamin A
This nutrient is essential to growth, reproduction, and immunity. It slows down vision loss from age-related macular degeneration. Fish, eggs, and dairy products are rich in this vitamin.
  • Vitamin C
Also known as ascorbic acid, this vitamin is a super antioxidant best for fighting free radicals. It supports the immune system and aids in the production of collagen, which can help our skin firm and strong. It also supports our cardiovascular health. Rich sources of this vitamin include fresh fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits.
  • Vitamin D
This vitamin is essential for boosting bone and muscle health and also the immune system. Sunlight is responsible for about 90 percent of vitamin D production, while only 10 percent is derived from food. And its deficiency can cause the softening of bones.
  • Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble compound that can be found in several forms, but only alpha-tocopherol is useful to the body. It is best against skin inflammation. It is found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

Seniors need vitamins from a healthy meal. They need a daily dose to keep them strong and away from weakness and illnesses. So when you need someone to help with meal planning and other related assistance, get our services at Personal Care Services MidSouth.
